Happy New Year! As we enter 2023, it’s important to ensure that your Personal and Business brand is putting its best foot forward in terms of visual representation. The images seen on your website can be a powerful tool in marketing and attract your ideal clients, and it’s crucial to make sure that your images are high-quality and effectively convey your message – and crucially, taken by a Professional Photographer who knows what they are doing!
Not all Photographers can do this – just because they are a ‘Photographer’. It also means that you need to step away from the iPhone if you are ready to take your Brand Identity to the next level by showcasing the best version of your business on your website!
Here are my top 10 tips that I use for Business photography allowing my Clients to get results in 2023:
1. Define your brand and message
Before I start taking any photos, it’s important to have a clear understanding of what your brand represents and what message you want to convey through your images. This will help me guide your photo shoot and ensure that the final images align with your overall branding and marketing efforts.
2. Invest in high-quality equipment
Having professional-grade equipment is essential for capturing high-quality images. While a good camera and lens are important, I come armed with professional lighting that is fully portable for every need.
3. Use natural light
Natural light can add a sense of warmth and authenticity to your images. When possible, I love to shoot in natural light or use artificial light to mimic natural light.
4. Experiment with angles and perspectives
Experimenting with different angles and perspectives can add interest and depth to your images. I will be shooting from high or low angles, or using a wide-angle lens to capture a sense of space. Essentially, you need a variety of dynamic angles that work to attract a viewer’s attention immediately!
5. Pay attention to the composition
The composition of an image can make a big difference in how its message is communicated. For me, I exploit all the Elements and Principals of Design in my photography to purposefully lead the viewer’s eyes around the image, use Colour Psychology to instill emotion or reiterate brand colours or make something stand out specifically. There is always method to composition – it’s never by chance!
6. Show people in action
People are naturally drawn to images that show other people in action. Whether it’s employees working in your office or customers using your products, showing people in action can help to make your images more relatable and engaging.
7. Use a consistent style
Consistency is key when it comes to business photography. I use a consistent style of clean, crisp, realistic photography and editing techniques across all of your images to create a cohesive visual representation of your brand.
8. Optimise for social media
With the rise of social media, it’s important to make sure that your images are optimised for different platforms. This means using the correct aspect ratio, file size and colour space for each platform, as well as considering how the images will look on mobile devices.
9. Posing and Direction
Most of us are NOT ‘professional models’ and therefore are nervous in front of the camera and don’t know what to do. Rest assured, posing people for all body types, clothing and scene direction is just one of my “Super Powers’ – I will never leave you hanging!
10. Keep your images up-to-date
Your business and your products will change over time, so it’s important to keep your images up-to-date. Regularly update your website and social media profiles with new images to make sure that your visual representation stays fresh and current.
My Business Branding packages are filled with options so that you can book in throughout the year to refresh your look and business imagery. Create you very own Stock Library of images so that you can always have something on hand to display. These are just a few tips but in truth, I have a hundred more!
