Architecture, Building and Construction Photography
This is an area that I am so passionate about, particularly when I get to shoot the ‘before’ AND the final product!
My Clients include architectural firms, luxury home builders plus large building and construction companies including Buildcorp, De Luca, Quadric and Rycon Constructions to name a few.
My steel cap boots and hi-viz are always to hand – don’t worry, I don’t mind getting a bit dusty or heights!
I shoot a wide range of projects such as display homes, shopping centres, cinemas, childcare centres and aged care homing plus major commercial fit outs on a regular basis. Not to mention University campuses and new school buildings such as the exciting addition to Villa Nova College in Coorparoo shown here on the left!
Large scale projects in 2020 included multiple Clients located in the same building at 300 George Street Brisbane such as Transurban, NTI and Amazon plus other multiple Dexus sites and Origin Energy’s new offices covering 5 levels in 180 Ann Street.
Hotels are also an area of specialty when they have been refurbished such as Rydges Southbank, Accor and Adina Brands and often, marketing photography that involves a full commercial shoot for Client Services, conference and event facilities and the hotel’s restaurants is completed at the same time.
Did you know?
One of the reasons why I am commissioned for this type of photography is that my Clients know that I never miss or overlook the finer details, I am very purposeful in my composition and I am patient in waiting for the perfect light or create my own and then deliver the fully retouched image ahead of time…
This is why you will often see my images submitted for Master Builders Awards.
I have been using a specialized ‘painting with light’ practice for years now for the more high-end showcase spaces where certain areas are lit separately through multiple exposures and then they are composited together in Post production. After positioning the camera, I actually shoot remotely via an iPad while lighting the areas myself…
If you look closely at the image on the right, you will see ME lighting the auditorium as well as firing the camera on the iPad taking a photo of the light I have just exposed for. That’s the Base image.
You can also see the #bts shot on my iPad in the Inset Detail.
It’s mostly just me in an architectural or interior shoot, negating the need for multiple Assistants – keeping everything cost effective for my Clients!
The final image (below) consists of 10 images – each lit differently and then put together in Photoshop. This space would never have looked like this in just one exposure!
(The Client was thrilled with this outcome and entered it into the Master Builder’s Award)
This process is a little more time consuming but for those impressive internal and external views, the results are exceptional!
Most Commercial fit outs don’t need that level of lighting or production and therefore a lot can be photographed in a space of an hour for those smaller scale locations such as medical offices, communal work spaces and shop fit outs.
I invite you to look through my portfolio pages so you can envisage the possibilities to light up your space and breathe life into your project!
A few kind words…
“Leah Desborough produces the most beautiful images! As soon as a property is booked to be styled, Leah is our first call so that we can have her talent for the photo shoot. Leah pays great attention to the details, going above and beyond for her clients.
Even being on the other end of Leah’s camera is not daunting as she makes everyone feel confident and relaxed. Omkara Interiors love working with Leah Desborough and are always thrilled with the end product.”

Interior Design Photography
Interior Designers and Decorators (and I absolutely appreciate the difference) take such pride in their creativity and it’s so important to capture their finished work before handover to the Client. To exploit and showcase your skills for your own portfolios and website, step away from your smart phone and let a professional photographer do it justice.
You need a Photographer to work along side you who can see and appreciates your vision!
Like you, I emulate the Elements and Principles of Design and utilize it across all of my photography – colour theory, leading lines, balance, positive and negative space, texture and form, all working harmoniously to produce the perfect composition just as you, the Designer has done for a living or working space.

I truly love photographing stunning interior design work for styling portfolios, home staging, commercial interiors, luxury home builds and display houses and I believe that it is often a complimentary and collaborative process to achieve the results we are both looking for… Perfection!
