December is here and Christmas Parties are in full swing! The iPhones are out and end of year celebrations are being snapped like crazy for Social Media posts – or perhaps the Boss has splurged and hired a Professional Photographer for the Event Photography.
I shoot a lot of Events this time of year and always try and take a few seconds to advise best poses so that you will actually LOVE the images! There is no point in me snapping off unflattering images of my Clients – I want to be booked again right?
Here are my Top 5 Photographic Posing Tips that will help you make the most of your sparkly party frocks and selfies!
- Try to create ‘triangles’ with your body to show your curves e.g. – Hands on your hip. By creating ‘negative space’ you won’t look like a straight up and down block. Don’t hide your curves – enhance them!
- Double Chins – holding your head up to avoid it isn’t a good look. And no scrunching your chin back into your neck… That’s actually making it worse. Chin DOWN and then lean forward towards the Photographer from your waist then eyes to the lens.
- Group Photos – Try to avoid being stuck on the end! A view with a wide angle lens isn’t very flattering… We’ve all been there!
- Colour Co-ordination – stand beside people who will add contrast to your colour scheme – so don’t blend!
- And last but not least – avoid drunken selfies… Once they are out there in digital land – they’re out!!
A Professional Photographer worth their salt should always take care and time when directing people to pose to best suit their body types, clothing and positioning of that glass of Champagne. And the Party Goers will love them for it!

Have a wonderful Christmas Season Everyone!
